Met Office yellow weather warning as Scotland faces gale force winds

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for wind in many places across Scotland.

The forecasters predict strong winds in parts of the country today with a weather warning in place until 5pm this evening - Sunday November 7.

Areas of low pressure in the north of Scotland has resulted in strong winds throughout the weekend with much of us Scotland experiencing gale force winds throughout today, according to BBC Weather.

The winds will bring gusts in excess of 70mph in many areas including Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen and Inverness as well as more more northern areas.

The very strong winds are likely to result in some travel disruption and dangerous coastal conditions across northern and eastern Scotland.

Plenty of showers will accompany the windy conditions throughout northern areas today with more central and southern parts of the country still windy but mainly dry, reports BBC Weather.

The Met Office weather warning stated: "Strengthening west to northwesterly winds will bring gusts of 60-70 mph, perhaps locally 80 mph, to exposed locations of northern Scotland.

"In combination with high spring tides this is expected to lead to large waves around the coasts. Winds gradually easing through Sunday afternoon.".

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport expected
  • Some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges
  • Some short term loss of power and other services
  • Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
