Met Office weekend forecast for Greater Manchester as wet weather here to stay

After a scattering of snow in Greater Manchester, the region is set for a wet and windy weekend, according to forecasters.

Areas including Saddleworth and Mossley in Tameside woke up to stunning scenes of snowfall on Friday morning.

But, the Met Office predicts scattered showers are to come, rather than more of the white stuff.

Temperatures are likely to stay cool, while most areas will see heavy cloud cover and windy conditions.

In Manchester, heavy rain is expected to fall on Saturday morning and again in the evening.

Temperatures are predicted to peak at around 7C, but could feel more like a chilly 0C at times.

Sunday is expected to see more rain at around noon followed by a slightly milder evening, with temperatures dropping to around 5C overnight.

Looking towards next week, the rain is expected to clear, bringing settled conditions and lighter winds.

Temperatures will be around average for the time of year, but there is a risk of some colder nights with frost and fog, the Met Office says.

Here is the Met Office forecast for the North West of England for tonight, the weekend and into early next week.

Tonight

"Friday's showers fading through the evening and winds easing. A frost and some ice developing early in the night but becoming cloudier and milder through the early hours of Saturday as rain, heavy at times, moves in and winds strengthen. Minimum temperature -3 °C."

Saturday

"A cloudy, wet, and breezy day as the rain clears east followed by showers through the afternoon. Mild to start the day but turning slightly cooler after the rain clears. Maximum temperature 9 °C."

Sunday to Tuesday

"Scattered showers continuing into Sunday between occasional sunny spells. Largely cloudy and mild with some drizzle on Monday. Further showers to start on Tuesday before skies turn somewhat clearer later."
