Met Office weekend forecast as wintry showers set for many with snow in parts

The Met Office has forecast a cold and frosty weekend with wintry showers expected. People in some parts of Wales woke up to snow on Thursday morning as temperatures dropped below freezing.

People on higher ground in Blaenau Gwent and the Brecon Beacons were greeted with a shower of the white stuff on Thursday, March 31, as temperatures reached lows of 2 °C in parts. And while temperatures are set to rise slightly in the coming days, the Met Office has forecast a weekend of cold and frosty weather with wintry showers as we head into April.

The Met Office forecast for Friday said: "A cold and frosty start with sunny spells. Showers in the west will die away by midday, but scattered showers will develop elsewhere for the afternoon, these wintry on hills. Maximum temperature 10 °C."

And there is even likely to be more snow in store, with forecasters predicting light snow in Ebbw Vale on Saturday morning, with temperatures as low as 6°C. Elsewhere in the country it will be slightly warmer than in previous days, with temperatures of around 8-10°C expected in both Cardiff and Carmarthen on Saturday and Sunday.

Further west, Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire will be around 9°C over the weekend. The weather looks to be unsettled across the board in Wales at the weekend, with a mixture of rain, cloud and some bright spells throughout.
