Met Office weather warning for heavy rain as thunder storm hits Bristol

The Met Office has issued a yellow level weather warning for heavy rain and the chance of flooding for Bristol.

The warning comes into effect from 6am on Tuesday, and will last until 10pm - with the prediction that the whole day will be a washout with disruptive heavy showers and persistent rain.

There is already a yellow warning in place for Wales - but not over the Channel to Bristol - in place for the second half of Monday, but the area covered by the warning is extended from before dawn on Tuesday.

In the latest warning the Met Office said: “Heavy showers are likely across south Wales and southern England on Tuesday with a small chance of disruption from flooding.

“Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings and there is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life. There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads

“There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses."

The forecast for the weather for the rest of the week is varied and uncertain, with the possibility of the remnants of a hurricane heading towards Britain, a brief cold snap and more heavy rain - all before Saturday.
