Met Office weather warning: Flooding risk as heavy rainfall forecast

The Met Office has warned of the risk of localised flooding as four days of heavy rain are forecast for parts of Wales.

The downpours are expected to hit on Wednesday and last until the weekend.

Yellow warnings have been issued for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday as a period of unsettled weather hits the country, with up to 50mm forecast in parts.

Wales weather presenter Sue Charles says: "Low pressure dominating our weather across Wales this week.

"Quite mild, often windy - but with more rain on the way, there's an ongoing risk of localised flooding."

The warning for Wednesday (December 16) says: "A band of rain will move eastwards through Wednesday morning, clearing during the afternoon.

"This will bring widely 20-30 mm of rain with spots of 40-50 mm, mainly over the high ground of south Wales."

It is in place from 3am until 4pm on Wednesday.

Weather warning for Wednesday (Met Office)

The warning issued from 9pm on Thursday until 3am on Saturday says: "Outbreaks of rain are likely to spread across these areas later Thursday, with further spells of at times heavy rain then following through Friday, before clearing to the east early Saturday.

"Many areas are expected to see 20-30 mm, with Dartmoor and higher ground of south Wales likely to see some 50-60 mm. After wet weather on preceding days, some flooding is likely, this in turn affecting transport and travel."

The warning in place from Thursday until Saturday (Met Office)

The Met Office long range forecast for Saturday, December 19, until Monday, December 28, says temperatures are set to drop.

It says: "Unsettled conditions into Saturday with a mixture of sunny spells and showers, some heavy, especially in the western parts of the country.

"These unsettled conditions set to continue with showers likely heaviest in the west, whilst areas further east experience drier spells.

"Windy at times, with coastal gales, and staying mild. Towards the end of next week, there is a greater chance of more settled conditions, mainly in the north and east (of the UK), accompanied by increasing incidence of frost and fog.

Weather in your area:

"Rain or showers becoming less frequent and tending to become focussed across southern and western parts. Wintriness most likely confined to higher ground, but there remains a chance of snow temporarily to low levels.

"Temperatures mild at first, probably slowly trending downwards through the period."
