Met Office weather warning as strong winds to batter parts of Merseyside

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for parts of the country today, including some Merseyside areas.

Forecasters say there will be a strong winds from 3pm today (Thursday) until 3am on Friday, across Southport, Formby, Crosby, Bootle and Melling. A second yellow wind warning is in place between 3pm on Friday and 3am on Saturday, for the same areas.

According to the Met Office people in these parts of Merseyside are being warned of potential "disruption to transport and infrastructure".

We may see travel delays, including trains and buses, some loss of power, and large waves on the coast. Thursday's Liverpool forecast predicts highs of 11C, that feel more like 8C, and lows of 7C, with a real feel of 2C.

It's expected to be windy with rain, showers, and sunny spells. Formby, Crosby and the other areas affected by the weather warning are set for cooler temperatures, with highs that feel like 7C. It will also be wetter in these parts of the region.

Gales are set to hit speeds of 58 mph overnight, a speed the Beaufort scale describes as having the potential to damage chimneys and roofs and bring down trees.

A flood alert remains in place for the River Alt and other watercourses from Huyton to Hightown including, Kirkby, Fazakerley, Maghull, Formby, Aughton, Sefton and Lunt
