The West Country could be set to experience a rainy weekend as days of scorching sunshine come to an end. The last few days have seen temperatures soar as high as 29C in some areas of the South West, prompting a level two heat-health alert from the UK Health Security Agency.
But this weekend is set to be a gloomier affair, with the Met Office predicting 'heavy' downpours across the region. Although it will remain warm, it could become a wet and blustery afternoon.
Their forecast for the South West today says: "Rather cloudy across northern and western parts with some showery outbreaks of rain, perhaps heavy at times. A bright start in the southeast with warm sunny spells, but turning cloudier into the afternoon.

"Becoming increasingly windy through the day. Maximum temperature 22 °C."
The Met Office says that rain is expected to continue into the evening, but it could ease off overnight. Their forecast says that tonight will be "mostly cloudy through the evening with some further showery outbreaks of rain, but gradually turning drier overnight with some clear spells."
And the miserable weather could continue into Sunday, although some areas are expected to be sunnier. The Sunday forecast says: "Rather cloudy at times in the south and west with some further outbreaks of showery rain. Elsewhere, dry with sunny spells."
The BBC is also predicting a wet and overcast weekend, which will be a sharp change from this week's blue skies. Their forecast for the South West says: "Today will be a mostly dull day, with overcast skies and outbreaks of showery rain.
"The rain may be heavy in places, with the odd rumble of thunder possible. Tonight, it will start cloudy and wet as outbreaks of rain continue for a time. It will turn drier towards dawn, however, as clear spells develop in places."
