Met Office weather forecast: When heavy rain and strong winds are set to hit the UK

The Met Office forecasts adverse weather hitting the UK next month.

But the outlook for the South West is brighter than other parts of the country.

Bristol is set to see highs of 9C today (March 30), with overcast skies and some rain in the early afternoon and evening.

In its South West forecast for the coming days, the Met Office says: "Monday will be mostly dry and breezy with sunny spells at first.

"However, it will turn increasingly cloudy through the morning ahead of scattered showers arriving by late afternoon. Maximum temperature 10C.

"The next few days should be mostly dry and cloudy though with the odd shower still possible."

The forecaster has also given a UK-wide forecast for early April.

It says: "Through the beginning of the period unsettled conditions across the north are likely to spread southwards.

"The northwest will see the worst of the weather with spells of heavy rain and strong winds interspersed with sunshine and showers whilst the southeast should stay drier and brighter.

"Towards the middle of April the weather may turn more changeable with a few days of rain and strong winds alternating with periods of sunshine and showers for much of the UK.

"Any showers may turn to a mix of sleet and snow over northern hills. Temperatures are likely to be around normal for the time of year. During any more settled periods, mild days are likely to give way to cold nights."
