Met Office weather forecast: Sub-zero temperatures to hit in coming days

Sub-zero 'feels like' temperatures could hit Bristol this weekend, according to the Met Office.

The weather is expected to alternate between cloudy and sunny over the coming days, with little rain, but temperatures are expected to be very cold.

On Saturday, November 30 we should see highs of 7C, but the 'feels like' figure could dip as low as 1C in the evening.

But it is set to get even chillier on Sunday, December 1 with temperatures peaking at just 6C but getting as low as -1C.

Monday, December 2 will also remain cold - with lows of 1C.

In its South West forecast, the Met Office says: "Sunday will start largely dry and cloudy with some sunny spells in the afternoon.

"Dry on Monday and Tuesday with plenty of sunshine after any fog and frost clears."

And predicting the national picture for next week, it adds: "Much of England and Wales settled at first with areas of fog developing which will locally persist for much of the day on Wednesday and Thursday.

"Some bright or sunny spells are possible, particularly around coasts. Further northwest, increasingly unsettled conditions are expected to develop during Wednesday with wet and windy weather transferring slowly southeast through Thursday and Friday.

"Over the weekend and into the following week, the changeable theme is likely to persist with spells of more organised cloud, rain and stronger winds followed by some brighter, showery and colder interludes.

"The heaviest rainfall is likely across the northwest with snow over northern hills, possibly to lower levels at times. Temperatures are likely to remain at or slightly below normal with occasional milder interludes mainly in the south."

The five-day forecast

Saturday: Cloudy changing to sunny by lunchtime. Lows of 2C and highs of 7C.

Sunday: Cloudy changing to sunny by late morning. Lows of -1C and highs of 6C.

Monday: Partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning. Lows of 1C and highs of 6C.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning. Lows of 2C and highs of 7C.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy changing to mist by late morning. Lows of 2C and highs of 6C.

In a longer-range forecast, the Met Office expects temperatures to stay around average, or just above, in mid-to-late December for that time of year.

It continues: "Towards the end of 2019 there is a possibility that we will see a transition to some longer, more settled and colder periods."
