Met Office weather forecast for UK - cold and dry start to the week

There will be a blessed relief from all the heavy rain of the past few days across Britain, and especially in Bristol, as a calm but cold spell brings settled conditions in the weather for the start of this week.

Monday will begin cold and dry, with overcast skies during the morning rush hour, and temperatures dropping to lows of 5C just before dawn around 8am.

As the shortest day arrives, spells of sunshine will be few and far between this week, but there will be a break in the clouds and sunny intervals on Monday morning from around 10am until lunchtime, and the temperatures will rise to a still chilly 8C.

But the cloud will thicken again, with mist and fog patches forming as winds drop and the temperature drops too.

We're in for a calm, still, cold winter's night on Monday night, with temperatures again dropping to 3 or 4C.

Tuesday looks to be one of those days with barely any weather at all - grey skies, no wind, cold and dry.

But the still conditions won't last, and by the end of Wednesday, the rain will return as the wind freshens up and a new front arrives from the Atlantic bringing a distinctly wet night on Wednesday night and an unsettled period of sunshine and showers on Thursday and Friday.
