Met Office weather forecast for Thursday - Thunder and heavy showers break the sunshine

Weather forecasters from the UK Met Office are predicting there could well be thunderstorms for Bristol and much of the rest of Britain on Thursday, as the warm weather triggers heavy showers.

The forecast for Britain is a sunny day but with clouds developing and turning into rain later.

And in Bristol, that could be quite a dramatic turn.

The forecast for Bristol is for wall-to-wall sunshine from dawn until mid-afternoon, with temperatures rising steadily to a lunchtime high of 21degC.

So it will feel warm and sunny, but at around 3pm, a band of showers will roll in from the south west and initially they will be very heavy.

The front of that band of showers could even be thundery with lightning strikes forecast alongside a 50 per cent chance of rain from 3pm until 4pm.

The showers will continue but ease off slightly as night falls, and it should dry up by around 10pm on Thursday evening.

Those thundery showers will break the little heatwave we've been enjoying this week so far, and Bank Holiday Friday will be noticeably cooler and cloudier.

It will be overcast for much of the morning, with temperatures only reaching 19degC - lower than Thursday.

There could be a shower or two on Friday afternoon, but it will brighten up before dusk.

The outlook for Saturday and Sunday is similar, although it will be getting warmer in between the showers, before another break in the weather at the start of next week.
