Met Office weather forecast for the week ahead as Storm Atiyah threatens to disrupt Monday commuters

Another unsettled couple of days are forecast for Wales this week, as blustery showers and cold air sweep the country.

On Sunday the Met Office extended its yellow weather warning for extreme wind in South Wales, which is now in place until 9am on Monday.

Delays are possible to road and rail users due to 70mph gusts caused by Storm Atiyah, the Met Office warned.

There is also a chance of power cuts, thought the worst of the storm is set to hit on Sunday night.

However, later on Monday much of Wales will enjoy a brief break from the wet weather as the storm moves eastward away from the British Isles.

But dry conditions and sunshine won't last long.

The latest Met Office forecast predicts heavy rain and strong winds will return on Tuesday - though maximum temperatures will reach the low teens for many locations, making for a rather mild December day.

Wednesday threatens to be much colder, however, as blustery showers span much of the day.

As millions head to the polls on December 12, winds will ease - but rain will continue.

Voters will want to pack an umbrella in preparation for queues outside polling stations.

Following a largely wet week, the worst of the weather is expected to come to an end on Friday, as light showers change to sunny intervals by late morning.
