Met Office weather forecast: Bristol to be hit by heavy rain - forecast for Friday and the weekend

Bristol will be battered by heavy rain for much of today, Friday - so much so that the Met Office has issued a weather warning.

The yellow weather warning comes into force from 8am on Friday, and covers almost all of the south west and Wales.

The likelihood is, though, that the rain won't reach Bristol until around 9am, but once it arrives it will stick around for a long time.

The Met Office said the heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption. They are warning to expect spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer, bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer, and that flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.

As of the overnight forecast, the yellow weather warning lasts until 10pm - but that could change through the course of Friday.

In terms of the actual forecast, the rain will start off fairly light from 9am but get much heavier from around noon, and remain very heavy for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

The heavy rain will also be accompanied by stormy conditions. There will be a brisk southerly wind, gusting up to 35mph at times, and visibility on the roads is predicted to be 'poor' during the day too.

The temperature will only get up to 17degC, but it will feel like just 14deg C for most of the day, if you're unlucky enough to be out in it.

The good news is that the rain will only last a day. It is predicted to stop in the early hours of Saturday morning, and Saturday looks like being a dry, overcast day which will be a bit warmer and a lot nicer than Friday.

It will be the best day of the weekend though, Sunday's forecast is for sunshine and heavy showers for most of the day, after a bright start.

There might be better news looking further ahead to next weekend's Bank Holiday - according to some forecasts, a tropical storm in the northern Pacific could and send it to the north of the UK, sucking up hot sunny weather from the Med just in time for the last weekend of August.
