Met Office weather for the week as high pressure forecast for Wales

High pressure is set to remain in charge for most of the week in Wales with sunny spells and freezing overnight temperatures.

Monday will start frosty in Wales, with lows of -2°C, but there will also be lots of winter sunshine under clear skies and temperatures are set to rise to around 8°C.

BBC forecaster Darren Bett says: "Higher pressure is never going to be too far away this week, and that means a lot of dry weather. It is going to be quite cold, not so much during the day, but overnight there is going to be some frost.

"Another area of high pressure is coming in later in the week, but for a while it is going to be centred to the west of the UK, meaning colder, north-westerly winds heading our way. It will mean temperatures will drop overnight, and there will be a more widespread frost on Thursday."

This is the forecast for Monday morning:

The Met Office says: "High pressure will dominate our weather keeping it settled for most. Temperatures will be around average for January.

"There will be some wind and rain overnight on Wednesday that will clear to the south. On Thursday, high pressure will build again from the Atlantic."

The Met Office UK long range for the weekend and up to the end of January says: "Through Friday and into the weekend it is expected to be dry for many but often rather cloudy, with some light rain at times in the far north. For the rest of the period high pressure is likely to dominate, particularly in the south of the country, resulting in drier and more settled weather with the possibility of overnight frost and fog which may linger through the day.

"Any unsettled weather is likely to be in the north and northwest with rain at times but otherwise predominately dry. It will also be windy in the north at times.

"Temperatures are expected to be around or slightly above average, although colder where fog persists by day."
