Met Office weather: Bristol set to receive rain at last in latest forecasts

Bristol is to see a largely dry and warm week - but some rain is being forecast. The Met Office is predicting the city will see some rain tomorrow afternoon (July 20) and then again later in the week.

After temperatures above 30C, they will tomorrow drop to their mid-twenties for the rest of the week. Tomorrow Bristol will see a dry, sunny start of the day followed by some clouds at 11am that will turn to some light rain at 1pm.

However, the rain won't last and it will then be dry for the rest of the day after 2pm. Thursday will be another sunny day, while Friday could also see a bit of rain.

At the moment, the Met Office is forecasting light showers between 4pm and 7pm. It will then be dry and sunny over the weekend, with temperatures staying between 26C and 17C.

The Avon area recorded its hottest day on record on Monday (July 18), according to the Met Office. Temperatures hit 35.3C earlier yesterday afternoon - which is higher than the previous record of 34.7C recorded in 2006.

The forecasting service said that Almondsbury, in South Gloucestershire, recorded 35.3C at 1.57pm. The Met Office says this was the highest temperature record in the region of Avon, adding that the site in the village near Bristol is the closest official site to the city itself.

The previous record was recorded on July 19, 2006, in Filton at 34.7C. However, according to the Met Office forecast, today's temperatures (Tuesday, July 19) look set to be around 32C at its highest.

Temperatures have been steadily increasing over the past week, making for some hot and sunny weather over what was the Bristol Harbour Festival weekend. An extreme heat warning has been issued for Bristol that could bring 'danger to life'.

The amber weather warning has been regarded as a rare occurrence by the Met Office which reportedly could lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure. This is the Met Office forecast for the South West for the next few days:

This Evening and Tonight

Patchy cloud around this evening, particularly in the west, becoming more widespread during the early hours. Showers, which maybe heavy or thundery, are expected to move into Cornwall and Devon by dawn. Feeling a little cooler overnight than of late. Minimum temperature 13 °C.

Wednesday

Showers petering out in the west, with cloud breaks developing later. Cloudy with isolated showers in the east, with a risk of heavier outbreaks and thunder. Feeling fresher than Tuesday. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday

A largely dry, bright period with showery rain possible on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures similar to Wednesday - feeling warm in the sunshine, though often cooler near the coast.
