Met Office warns weather in UK to take nasty turn after sunny weekend

Britons have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine this weekend as winter draws to a close.

Spring was definitely in the air as people flocked to parks and beaches to enjoy the flowers and blue skies, with some brave souls even taking a dip.

But while the weather is pleasant, it won't last long according to the Met Office.

The forecasters said: "High pressure will continue to dominate the weather across the UK.

"Tuesday will stay mostly dry. The best of the cloud breaks in the west once again.

"On Wednesday, showery rain gradually spreads north. Generally mild in the south, colder in the north.

"Thursday will be often cloudy with light rain possible. It will feel colder for many.

"Friday is a cold feeling day. Mostly dry with variable cloud and some bright or sunny spells."

Warm weather at the weekend saw some sun-seekers travel from Leeds and Stockport to Formby beach, in blatant breaches of current lockdown restrictions.

Lines of double-parked cars meant many of the village’s roads were effectively one-way only, with many frustrated home-owners unable to go out.

Hundreds of cars were turned away from the National Trust car park yesterday, with police handing out 20 coronavirus fines.

The streets surrounding the beach were gridlocked and the car park was full by 11am.

Under the current plan for lockdown easing, socialising in parks and public spaces with one other person will be permitted from March 8.

As of March 29, groups of up to six people or two households will be allowed to gather in parks and gardens.

By May 17, two households or groups of up to six people may be allowed to mix indoors, with all remaining restrictions hopefully lifted by June 21.
