Met Office warns strong winds of up to 55mph could hit Nottinghamshire today

If you thought a summer full of glorious sunshine and blue skies had started, you might need to think again.

Storm Hannah has already made an appearance in southern England and now she is set to hit parts of Nottinghamshire later today.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds has been issued by the Met Office to help prepare the public for the severe weather.

The warning is in place from 9pm today (Friday April 26) and 3pm tomorrow (Saturday April 27).

Strong gusts are expected across parts of Nottinghamshire, as well as the rest of the Midlands and all of southern England.

The warning suggests there could be a 'risk of disruption' as a result of the strong winds.

What to expect

A Met Office spokesperson said: "A spell of strong winds is expected across southern and some central parts of the UK, bringing a risk of disruption."

People are being warned that delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport could be a possibility.

High-sided vehicle drivers are also being warned to be extra careful on exposed routes and bridges.

There is also a potential risk of power loss, if trees and branches fall.
