Met Office warns of thunderstorms after long sunny spell

The Met Office is predicting plenty more sunny spells this week, with highs of 23C in Liverpool.

The city and the wider region has enjoyed lots of sunshine in recent weeks, and this is set to continue through to Sunday (June 11). Sunday is predicted to be the hottest day of the week, with highs of 23C in Liverpool, however there is also a light shower or two forecast for that day.

And as we move towards the middle of the month, there may be thunderstorms, though the north of England is "more likely to hold onto drier conditions".

Meteorologists currently only give a Liverpool forecast as far in advance as to Sunday, but the Met Office UK predictions for June 9-18 say things "may become cloudier in the southwest, with the chance of some showers or thunderstorms here. It will likely remain cloudy at times along northern and eastern coasts, cloud occasionally moving inland, mainly overnight.

"Temperatures generally warm away from the east coast, locally very warm. Later in the period uncertainty increases, however there is a risk of showers or thunderstorms in southern areas of the UK, while northern areas are more likely to hold onto drier conditions.

"The easterly breeze may ease at times, allowing eastern counties to see a recovery in temperatures. Temperatures generally near to above average."
