Met Office warns 'freezing fog' is set to hit Bristol

The Met Office is warning people to brace themselves for "freezing fog".

These conditions are likely to affect Bristol and other parts of the South West in the mornings of the week ahead.

The Met Office says in its regional forecast: "After a cold and frosty start, Monday (December 2) will be dry and bright with some sunshine developing once any freezing fog patches clear. Maximum temperature 8C.

"The coming days should be dry with sunny spells. Feeling cold and frosty throughout with freezing fog patches which may be slow to clear."

There are likely to be sunny spells on both Monday and Tuesday, while Wednesday and Thursday are set to be cloudier.

Dark rainclouds and heavy downpours are set to hit on Friday.

Temperatures will generally increase as the week goes on, with highs of 6C on Monday, 7C on Tuesday, 6C on Wednesday, 9C on Thursday and 12C on Friday.

Next Saturday will be cloudy, with a low chance of rain and predicted highs of 10C.

In its UK forecast for mid-to-late December, the Met Office says: "Although confidence is low for this period, the unsettled conditions are expected to continue.

"There will be some rain with interludes of cold but bright weather alongside a risk of showers. There is a continued chance of further wintry showers on high ground in the north.

"Temperatures will likely tend towards average, or just above, for this time of year. Towards the end of 2019 there is a possibility that we will see a transition to some longer, more settled and colder periods."
