Met Office warns cold air moving in as temperatures drop to single figures

The Met Office has warned that cold air is moving in as temperatures drop to single figures.

Today started with some sunny spells, but it's soon set to be cloudy as outbreaks of rain are forecast for later on.

The rain will continue on Tuesday, becoming heavy at times and remain overnight into Wednesday, clearing by dawn but remaining cloudy for most during the day.

Dry and chilly conditions for Thursday and Friday with sunny spells and morning fog patches.

However, temperatures will cool down, with highs of just 7C forecast for Thursday.

Even worse, it will feel like 6C for most of the week - so make sure you're wrapped up if heading out.

The Met Office said: "Looking ahead to Tuesday, the rain is still sticking around for a time and it's all tied in with a set of weather fronts slowly moving their way eastwards.

"As we head into Tuesday night, the rain will gradually move its way across much of the country and by Wednesday morning many places will have seen a little bit of rain.

"As the weather fronts clear eastwards there will be some colder air moving in behind so it will turn chillier from the middle part of the week.

"And that means overnight we will gradually see more of a risk of frost for much of the country and some thick fog patches form too."
