Met Office warning for wind has been issued for Greater Manchester today

Hold on to your hats - it's going to get a bit breezy.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind across Greater Manchester today.

Forecasters say gusts of up to 38mph could be felt later this afternoon.

There's also an 80 per cent chance of heavy rain at 11pm tonight.

The warning says: "Strong winds are expected to cause some disruption, particularly during Saturday daytime."

It adds there could be 'delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges, with some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer; Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport expected with fallen trees possible; Some short term loss of power and other services."

There's also a chance of thunderstorms from 1pm to 3pm in Greater Manchester tomorrow.

A yellow warning for thunderstorms is in force in Scotland and northern parts of England.

Meanwhile a separate warning for rain is in effect for Wales, central and south-eastern part of England.

Thousands of people have been left disappointed after the severe weather disrupted weekend events.

Blackpool Air Show cancelled its first day of displays, while Boardmasters festival in Newquay, due to be headlined by Florence and the Machine, Foals  and the Wu-Tang Clan, was called off just hours before it was due to open after severe weather warnings hit the Cornish event.

Steve Ramsdale, chief meteorologist for the  Met Office , told the Daily Express: "People are used to that level of wind in the winter. Believe it or not this is supposed to be peak summer.

"It's a bit hit and miss with thunderstorms where there's fairly slack flow. It means that some areas will see very little rainfall.

"You could get away with a dry day if you're lucky. But where they do fall, we will see a large amount of rain fall in a short period of time.

"That could lead to some localised flooding and also difficult driving conditions.

"It's important people are aware that the potential for some heavy rain in a short period of time is possible."
