Met Office warn of potential flooding and travel disruption in County Durham

The Met Office has warned that heavy rain is expected to batter parts of the North East.

The heavy rain and melting snow is set to cause potential flooding and travel disruption in County Durham on Tuesday.

The warning is in place from 6pm until 4am on Wednesday.

It states: "Following earlier heavy snowfall, a period of heavy rain late Tuesday and overnight into early Wednesday will lead to a relatively rapid thaw.

"The combination of rain and melting snow may lead to some flooding."

Elsewhere, a snow and ice warning is in place for areas including Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland and County Durham is in place from 10pm on Monday.

  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
