Met Office update weather warning with parts of the North East expecting more heavy rain on Sunday

The weekend washout should ease for most places in the North East tomorrow after a weather warning was updated.

Heavy rain had been forecast across the North East from 9am on Saturday lasting until 3pm on Sunday.

Now forecasters have adapted their yellow weather warning .

A weather warning for rain is still in place for the majority of the North East until midnight tonight.

The Met Office has warned of flooding on the roads, difficult driving conditions and disruption on public transport.

Some places within the North East warning area may see very little rain, but others could see several hours of heavy rain.

Rainfall accumulations of 20-40mm are possible, with perhaps as much as 50mm in a few places.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, a second yellow weather warning for rain has been issued. Thi will only affect western Northumberland and County Durham.

This will be in place all day on Sunday.

There will be an added risk of thunderstorms and a chance of several waves of heavy rain for those in the warning area.

Elsewhere in the North East, Sunday will be cloudy and overcast but should stay mainly dry. Temperatures will reach a high of 19C and it could remain quite humid.
