Met Office UK weather: Huge thunderstorms threaten Bank Holiday weekend

For those hoping to enjoy a sunny end to the summer, you could be pretty disappointed this August Bank Holiday weekend.

Experts at the Met Office say huge thunderstorms will hit Weston-super-Mare on Friday at around 1pm.

Bristol will escape the worse of the weather, but downpours will arrive at around 3pm.

Heavy showers are expected to lash the majority of the county during the course of Friday as the weekend gets off to a shaky start, reports Somerset Live.

But do not despair, Saturday, Sunday and Monday should all be fairly dry.

It will feel slighter cooler over the weekend, with temperatures hitting a maximum of 18C.

For those hoping to head out to a beer garden or host a BBQ, Sunday looks like the best day of the weekend.

Sunny spells are predicted in Bristol, with the mercury hovering around 17C.

The Met Office Bank Holiday weekend UK weather forecast

Thursday to Saturday

It will become cloudier on Thursday and Friday with further showers or more persistent rain with strengthening winds again.

Saturday will still be windy, but with fewer showers. It will turn cooler by day and night.

Sunday to Monday

It will be a largely dry day for most on Sunday with warm sunny spells at times, as well as some cloud and a few light showers.

There will be generally light to moderate winds, but perhaps turning breezier in the east, making it will feel much cooler.
