Met Office UK and Greater Manchester weather forecast as temperatures to get warmer

After a week of soggy cool weather, warmer temperatures are set to make a return this weekend.

Forecasters have predicted temperatures could reach as high as 22C in some parts of the country on Sunday.

While an average temperature for this time of year, it's still cooler than the record-breaking highs experienced at the beginning of June.

It comes after the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, which saw some southern parts of England end up being colder than the winter solstice on December 21 last year.

According to the Met Office, Kenley in south London recorded a high of 12.2C on Monday and 12.5C on December 21.

It followed a weekend of downpours for many, with some parts of the country recording up to a month’s worth of rainfall in one day on Friday.

In Greater Manchester the weather will start to warm up as we head to the weekend.

Wednesday will be cloudy with highs of f 17C in the afternoon.

On Thursday temperatures should hit 19C by later afternoon after a cloudy start.

Friday may see some rain but temperatures should reach around 18C.

Saturday will feel warmer with highs of 19C with temperatures hitting 20C again on Sunday.

Next Monday's early forecast also looks promosing with sunshine and highs of 21C.

Oli Claydon from the Met Office said: “The best of the brightness will be further north and showers will hit the south of the UK this weekend.

“Southern regions of the UK can see temperatures hit the mid-20s by Sunday.”
