Met Office says Wales set for another scorching weekend after thunderstorm warnings

Get the BBQ ready as high pressure is heading to Wales in time for the weekend, bringing lots of sun with it.

There could be some rain in Wales on Wednesday afternoon and evening, but from Thursday into the weekend it is set to stay settled and warm.

The forecast is for a largely dry Saturday and Sunday with lots of sun and light winds.

Met Office forecaster Nicky Maxey said the weather is looking lovely for Wales this weekend.

She said: "There are showers, which could sometimes be heavy, around on Wednesday afternoon and evening. There is a thunderstorm warning for Northern Ireland, so there is heavy rain around and we could see some showers in north and mid Wales.

"That weather front will push eastwards quickly and high pressure will build into the weekend. It is going to be warm and sunny on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and into Monday."

It has been a dry start to the month with Wales getting less than a millimetre of rain since July 1.

Nicky said that the forecast looks good until at least the middle of next week when there could be "slightly more unsettled" weather.

It is good news for music fans who are heading to Nile Rodgers at Cardiff Castle on Friday and Singleton Park on Saturday for the Sterephonics gig.

The Wales Met Office forecast for the rest of the week:

Today:

Staying largely dry today with warm spells of sunshine at times. Where the cloud thickens in the north there could be the odd light shower, although most places should stay dry. Feeling warm and humid. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

Skies quickly clouding over this evening with outbreaks of rain. The rain could be heavy at times in North Wales, but light and patchy in the south. Warm and muggy. Minimum temperature 13 °C.

Thursday:

Largely cloudy on Thursday with outbreaks of drizzle at times, particularly in the west. A few brighter spells possible in the east, but mist and fog forming along western coasts. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Bright or sunny spells on Friday and perhaps the odd shower. Dry with sunny spells over the weekend and becoming warm.
