Met Office says thunderstorms and rain to replace glorious Easter weather across UK

Bristol and most of the UK has been blessed with glorious sunshine over the Easter period with record-breaking temperatures rising higher than in Spain's capital Madrid.

In the midst of a country-wide heatwave the mercury rose to heights of over 25C in some areas, and the hot climes are set to stay put on Easter Monday.

However, as most people return to work and school so will the mild and damp weather return to Bristol with the Met Office bringing the bad news that the Easter sunshine will come to an end.

Tuesday

Despite a little rain expected around 2am on Tuesday morning and a cloudier start to the morning, the Met Office says that tomorrow will be as warm as it has been over the Easter weekend, predicting temperatures will reach 23C by 3pm.

The Weather Channel app however, shows an ominous lightening symbol next to its Tuesday forecast and while it similarly predicts temperatures of around 22C it also says it will be cloudy for much of the day.

Wednesday

Light rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected throughout the week (Liverpool Echo)

Rain will hit on Wednesday, starting with light rain in the morning between 7am and 10am and heavier rain from 10am onwards. The sunshine will start making an appearance behind some rainy clouds at around 4pm and the weather should have cleared a little by early evening.

The Met Office forecast shows the temperature will drop significantly, falling to around half the temperatures of the weekend. The highest temperature is set to be 14C.

Unfortunately, the rain looks set to continue for the rest of the week.

Thursday

On Thursday it looks very likely it will rain all day from 4am until 10pm. There will be light showers mainly and some sunshine may be visible from behind the clouds however, the temperatures will not reach anywhere near the Mediterranean climes experienced over the weekend.

Friday

Continuing on the theme from Wednesday and Thursday, light rain will carry on throughout the day giving way to a cloudy nighttime. The temperature will only reach heights of 12C.

Saturday

Possibly a brighter day on Saturday hopefully for a more pleasant weekend. There will be light showers for parts of the day including between 4am and 10am.

However, there is a chance of sunny intervals by lunchtime with cloud cutting short sunny periods. It could reach 13C on Saturday, according to both the Met Office and The Weather Channel.

Sunday

Cloudy and rain are the words which will best describe Sunday's forecast. It could again reach 13C but cloud will cover the sky during the morning, breaking only for rain around 1pm. When the rain stops the cloudiness will continue into nightfall.

Next week

The rain will continue on into next week, with slightly higher temperatures of 14C forecast.
