Met Office says more snow will hit Greater Manchester as weather warning issued

The Met Office has issued yet another yellow warning for snow and ice, covering our region on Saturday with the potential for disruption to travel.

Weather warnings for snow are in force today (Wednesday) across the East Coast from Scotland to Kent and covering most of the South Coast.

A separate warning for the East Coast, for snow and ice, is also in place for tomorrow (Thursday) but covering a smaller area.

And on Friday there are snow and ice warnings in place along the east coast of Scotland and the north east coast.

Two other yellow snow and ice warnings for Friday are in place for South Wales west of Swansea and in Plymouth, Truro and Exeter.

Saturday's yellow weather warning is just on the West Coast from Scotland and covers the whole of the North West and Greater Manchester and stretches as far west at the Blackpool coast and to North Wales and south to Stoke on Trent. Liverpool and Cheshire are included in the yellow warning.

Saturday's weather warning is in force from midnight for 24 hours into the early hours of Sunday.

It said: "Snow is likely to spread east during Saturday with some accumulations in places and icy stretches. Potential for disruption to travel.

"Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, rail and bus services. Small chance of more prolonged delays with stranded vehicles and cancelled rail and air travel.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected."

And there's a "small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable".

People who have to travel are being urged by the Met Office to prepare a winter kit for their car.
