Met Office say flooding could hit Greater Manchester this week as weather warning issued

Heavy rain could bring flooding to Greater Manchester later this week after a yellow weather warning was issued for the region.

The warning is in place from midday on Thursday to 11.59pm on Friday.

It could cause 'periods of heavy rain possibly leading to flooding and disruption to transport', according to the Met Office.

They have warned:

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses

The weather warning covers large parts of the west of the UK, from Carlisle in the north of England down to Swansea in Wales.

It will follow a period of unsettled weather this week in Greater Manchester.

Expect a mixture of sunshine and showers today (Monday), and temperatures around 10C.

Tomorrow (Tuesday), more rain is on the horizon, with heavy downpours predicted around noon.

Wednesday should bring some periods of sunshine and light rain before the heavy rain hits on Thursday.

Despite the threat of downpours on Thursday and Friday, it should feel a bit warmer.

Mercury levels are predicted to hover round the mid teens on both days.
