Met Office issues urgent freezing fog warning for Merseyside

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for "dense fog and freezing fog" that is expected to cause travel problems.

The weather organisation have issued a yellow weather warning that comes into effect from 4am tomorrow until 11am Tuesday.

All of Merseyside and the majority of the North West are covered by the warning.

The warning reads: "Some dense fog and freezing fog patches on Tuesday morning likely leading to some travel disruption.

"Expect Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible.

"There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights."

The rest of the week is expected to be more settled with light cloud expected for most days and highs of eight degrees.

The Met Office forecast reads: "The cloud will break up through the evening, leading to a cold night with widespread frost.

"The clearing skies will allow temperatures to quickly drop below freezing after sunset, with fog or freezing fog patches developing under the light breeze. Minimum temperature -5 °C.

"On Tuesday any fog may be slow to clear. After a frosty start, the rest of the day will be dry with plenty of sunshine, but temperatures remaining on the cold side. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

"Wednesday will be cloudier with isolated showers after a frosty start. Thursday and Friday will remain cloudy with some longer outbreaks of rain moving across from the west. Breezy throughout."
