Met Office reveals latest weekend weather forecast for Wales with cold and snow possible

Parts of Wales may see snow this weekend as wintry conditions hit. Just one week since Storm Atiyah moved across the UK, heavy rain and a blast of cold air will return.

On Friday night, temperatures will dip as low as 2°C, allowing snow to fall over the hills, the Met Office said. Though it will quickly disappear come morning, it won't be the last of the weekend's wintry blast.

Low pressure dominating the UK will mean cold air, showery rain and hill snow on Saturday afternoon and evening. By the overnight hours, the mercury is forecast to dip into the low single digits, as strong gales buffet the hills and exposed coasts.

The chilly conditions will once again allow precipitation to fall as snow and sleet over the hills, making for wintry scenes come Sunday morning.

BBC senior meteorologist Derek Brockway said: "Parts of mid and north Wales could wake up to a dusting or more of snow on Sunday morning, especially on the mountains."

But he added that it's too soon to how much will fall and exactly where. The unsettled conditions will calm into the start of the work week, as skies clear and sunshine returns.
