Met Office puts 18 hour weather warning in place as south west braced for storms

The South West will be hit with 18 hours of rain and wind as a weather warning has been issued for region during Wednesday and Thursday.

The sunny start to spring is going to take a turn for the worst over the next couple of days, as heavy rain and strong gusts are set to batter much of the UK.

Experts at the Met Office have issued two yellow wind alerts running from 9pm on Wednesday (March 10) until 3pm the following day. The warnings are in place for all of the south west, and much of England and Wales.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely. Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

"Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer."
