Met Office predicts sunny Bank Holiday weekend weather for Liverpool

Sunshine is set to return to Liverpool, just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

This week has seen torrential rain and gale force winds batter the city, as Storm Francis took hold.

Roads were blocked by flooding and a fallen tree after Storm Francis hit.

In St Helens, a local beauty spot was transformed into a lake by heavy overnight rainfall.

College Street was closed in both directions because of flooding between Kingfisher Drive and Swift Street.

Meawhile, a large tree which fell during Storm Francis completely blocked a road in the Sefton Park area.

Summer seemed a distant memory as temperatures plummeted to below average for this time of year.

But from Saturday the Met Office says the sunshine is set to return, but it will be staying cool.

Saturday will see sunny intervals and a moderate breeze with a top temperature of 16 degrees.

Sunday will bring more sunny spells, with a more gentle breeze, but again temperatures will be on the low side at 16 degrees.

Bank Holiday Monday sees more cloud, however it should stay dry and temperatures will be slightly higher, at 18 degrees.

The Met Office outlook for the North West said: "Remaining cloudy with frequent showers on Friday but looking drier and brighter over the weekend.

"Winds turning a little stronger on Friday, but much calmer afterwards. Chilly nights."
