Met Office predicts sleet will fall in Glasgow on Christmas - but no signs of heavy snow

Many people will be getting ready for Christmas with the big day only next week - yes really.

And whilst they're putting up the tree and wrapping the presents, there's only one thing missing - and that's the snow.

The odds for a White Christmas in Scotland increased amid Storm Barra where snow fell in parts of the country - including here in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Though sadly the majority was sleet and due to wet surface conditions, it didn't lay and sadly there was therefore not enough to build a snowman - and it could happen again if it remains as sleet and not snow.

Recently though, the chances keep growing with bookmaker William Hill's odds on a White Christmas having been tightened and sinking to their lowest collective level since the last widespread festive whiteout.

It hasn't snowed on December 25 in the UK since 2015 however this could all change - and it would be welcomed by many.

William Hill spokesperson Rupert Adams said: "We continue to monitor this market very closely indeed, having seen a huge spike in interest in light of recent snow on the ground, and more on the way. It never ceases to amaze us how popular this particular festive flutter has become.

"With the arrival of this latest icy blast, the wider narrative looks as though it could well play out as is anticipated, meaning an increased likelihood of a festive sprinkling on December 25."

And let's be honest, what's better than sitting inside with a cuppa watching the snow fall - or watching people build snowmen or making snow angels outside?
