Met Office predicts North East could bask in 15C Indian Summer sunshine after downpours

Families could enjoy a short Indian Summer in the North East this week as warm air sweeps over Britain.

Temperatures are expected to be around average at the start of the working week before the weather slowly starts to get warmer.

Despite a cold start to the week, with temperatures around 10-11C, a warm continental plume will sweep across Britain over the next few days, bringing highs of 18C to some areas on Friday.

The weather system over the UK this week will be dominated by a wave of high pressure, which is typically associated with settled and warm conditions.

The best of the weather in the North East is expected on Saturday as highs of 15C and bright sunshine have been forecast.

It's not heatwave weather, but it should stay fairly warm, sunny and dry with temperatures staying steady at around 13C on Sunday.

The Met Office says that "warm spells during the autumn months are not uncommon" and that there is often a calm period of weather in October and November.

Although it will not be as warm during the first half of the week, the North East is expected to see settled weather with plenty of sunshine and very little rain.
