Met Office predicts more dismal weather is on the way as temperatures drop

If you're on your Easter holidays and looking to entertain your children, this may not be welcome news.

It's going to be a dull and grey week in the North East, according to weather experts - not particularly great for outdoor fun.

The Met Office says it will generally remain cloudy and cold, and temperatures will struggle to edge above 8C or 9C.

Sunday was overcast, with mist along the coast and hill fog. And the rest of the week is set to be similar.

5 natural ways to protect yourself from colds and flu this winter

Sophie Yeomans, Met Office meteorologist, said: "On Monday, it's going to be quite cool and quite cloudy. There will be mist, especially around the coastline.

"As far as temperatures go, there will be highs of 7C or 8C. On Tuesday, it will be about 8C or 9C and again cloudy.

"It's looking fairly similar throughout most of the week. It will be fairly cold, quite cloudy and misty. This is all because of the easterly wind coming from the sea."

She said this type of weather is not unusual for this time of year.

"This is not too far off from what is average for this time of year," she added. "The average is about 9C or 10C."

Ms Yeomans said we can also expect a few spots of rain on Wednesday or Thursday, and it will turn colder towards the end of the week.

"By Thursday and Friday, it might struggle to get above 6C or 7C. There may be some sleet or a few flakes of snow on higher ground, though it's not going to accumulate or stay.

"If you are looking for some sunshine, it may be better to head towards the west, where there may be some sunny spells."
