Met Office predicts final four hot days of late summer sun

Forecasters have predicted the final days of 21C sun the summer has left.

The Met Office has said temperatures could reach the low to mid-twenties from Tuesday (September 21) to Friday, September 24.

Birmingham Live reports that the south of England and London could well enjoy highs of 22C and above over the coming days.

A north and south weather split will see dry and sunny conditions across the southern regions of the UK.

In the north, meanwhile, rain will win out, with grey skies, strong winds and downpours expected.

In the Midlands, highs of 22C are expected on Friday - before the mercury plunges to just 17 degrees next Monday (September 27).

The final days of September will be crowned with temperatures in the teens.

October, meanwhile, could see regions in the country experience unseasonal warmth.

"Current signals, although quite weak, suggest that higher pressure is expected over the southeast during this period, giving generally settled conditions here and to eastern parts," forecasters predict.

The UK's hottest day was recorded in July as part of a UK heatwave, but hot weather has been few and far between for much of the nation this summer.
