Met Office predicts dates of next heatwave after this one ends

Liverpool is currently experiencing a heatwave with wall to wall sunshine and rocketing temperatures.

Merseyside could even see 30 degrees over the next few days as the heatwave continues.

There won't be a cloud in the sky over the next few days with strong sunshine set to dominate until Friday.

The Met Office issued its first ever Amber Extreme Heat Warning on Monday as temperatures soared.

The Extreme Heat Warning, which is issued with partners including public health partners across the UK, covers a large part of Wales, all of southwest England and parts of southern and central England. The amber warning will be in force until the end of Thursday.

But from Saturday the weather is set to break down, with rain and cooler temperatures currently forecast.

While some will welcome cooler temperatures to make it easier to sleep at night others will be wondering when the next heatwave could hit.

The Met Office forecast for the entire UK suggests that the next heatwave could hit in the first week of August.

The forecast for August 3 to August 17 said: "By early August, warmer and drier-than-average conditions look likely to return for much of the UK, although there is an increased risk of thunderstorms, especially in the southeast.

"By mid-August confidence becomes rather low, but with changeable conditions most likely.

"Above-average temperatures continue to be signalled for much of the period, perhaps becoming very warm or hot at times in the south."
