Met Office predicts date when 27C peak heat will hit UK - but it won't last long

Brits better get their togs ready, because the sun is coming - but the Met Office have warned that the best of the heat won't last long.

Whilst we can expect "fine, generally quite good conditions" for the rest of the week, including over the Bank Holiday weekend, tomorrow is set to be a scorcher.

Grahame Madge, a forecaster for the Met Office told The Mirror that while the beer garden weather will remain in place for the next few days, tomorrow is the peak.

"The highest temperatures are likely to be tomorrow. Possible 25s, 26s, 27s, in north west UK," he said.

It will definitely be swimming weather across the UK, especially tomorrow (PA)

He name checked places likely to get the best of the heat. Those places included Glasgow, Newry, Carlisle and Keswick.

Scotland looks set to get the best of the UK sun, which, Grahame said, is "very good for the time of year, especially considering the northerly latitude that they're in."

Grahame added that Manchester also has an outside chance of hitting 26 degrees.

On Thursday a cold front coming in from the north and east will cool temperatures to around 23, which will sustain throughout the bank holiday weekend.

"The peak of the heat will dissipate and then we're left with temperatures in the low to mid 20s and high teens in places," he said.

He said the expected heatwave that had been reported is unlikely because of the cold front.

"There is a cold front moving in the south and west of the UK, and that will be pulling in behind it fresher conditions so temperatures will be expected to come down a little bit from those highs towards the end of the week.

"But even so, we're not suggesting that it's a return to cold weather. Conditions will just be a little bit fresher than people may hope for," Grahame said.

He added that we will have "very pleasant weather but not the baking heat you would expect with a heatwave."

But he said this is no reason to stay indoors, as the sun will remain, just at a lesser level.

"If people want to make plans then the weather shouldn't be a block to any plans people want to make, within reason."

"I don't want to give the impression of wall to wall intense sunshine," he said, adding that it "might be slightly overcast for some."

As is customary in the UK, there could be a little drizzle in some places. But Grahame said it should clear up as quick as it comes.

"There's a bit of a signal for rain in the south east so I would include East Anglia, the Home Counties and the South East, but that should be quite ephemeral.

"It should effectively dissipate by afternoon on Saturday and then should leave better conditions for the rest of the weekend," he said.

The incoming sun will be a pleasant end to what has been a largely damp summer (PA)

The incoming sun will brighten the moods of Brits who have so far experienced a largely wet summer.

It’s been a poor season so far for staycationers who decided to test their luck with the British weather during July and August this year rather than tackle Covid restrictions and heading abroad.

The Met Office previously said some areas, including London, have had a month’s worth of average rainfall a full 12 days before the end.
