Met Office predicts big temperature swing in the UK

The Met Office expects the upwards swing in UK temperatures to continue over the coming days.

As recently as January 20, Bristol was experiencing 'feels' like temperatures of -1C.

But the experts predict today (January 30) will see 'feels like' highs of 10C in Bristol, meaning an 11C swing in just 10 days, while real temperatures are set to hit 12C in the city.

Friday 'feels like' temperatures are likely to peak at 9C, Saturday at 7C and Sunday at 9C in Bristol.

In its South West forecast for today, the Met Office says: "Most places will see patchy light rain or drizzle throughout the day.

"There will be some drier spells in the afternoon, but it will remain cloudy. Milder than of late. Maximum temperature 13C."

Moving into its weekend prediction, the forecaster continues: "A changeable few days with spells of rain and strong winds.

"The best of the dry and bright weather should be on Saturday before further rain arrives Sunday. Generally mild."

The Met Office has also given a longer-range UK forecast for the coming weeks.

It says: "The beginning of next week will remain unsettled with outbreaks of rain or showers mixed with bright or sunny spells.

"Thereafter, we should see the dominance of high pressure across the UK. This will allow a shift towards more settled conditions with a good deal of sunshine across most parts.

"Northern and eastern areas are likely to start this period cold with a chance of wintry showers, these likely falling as snow to relatively low levels at times.

"Towards the end of next week, the settled weather will spread further east with plenty of sunny spells by day and a risk of frost by night.

"Following this, it looks to stay mostly dry but it may turn increasingly cloudy towards the middle of February with possible overnight fog."
