Met Office Liverpool forecast as 'wintry showers' on the way

The Met Office predicts more wet and windy weather this week as a "strong jet stream" moves across the Atlantic.

A band of rain and strong winds will reach the north west, meaning we can expect a spell of sunshine and showers, some of them wintry.

However, the risk of further impacts from wind and rain is "much lower than we have seen in recent days".

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Andy Page, said: “A strong jet stream is driving weather systems across the North Atlantic with a succession of weather fronts moving into the UK bringing more wet and windy weather at times this week.”

“As Storm Franklin clears the UK and pushes into the near continent this afternoon the windy conditions will gradually ease and showers become fewer, leaving some dry, sunny weather for many.”

Thursday is set to be the coldest day of the week with a frosty start for some.

Here is the Met Office forecast for the rest of the week:

Tuesday

After a breezy, showery start, a band of wet and windy weather will sweep through during the morning, giving way to sunshine and scattered showers for the afternoon.

Highs of 11C that feel more like 5C.

Wednesday to Friday and further ahead

Bright at first on Wednesday, but turning cloudy and windy with patchy rain arriving.

Wet and windy overnight, then sunshine and showers, some wintry on Thursday.

Following some calmer weather on Friday, the weekend is set to begin with another windy spell.
