Met Office Leeds thunderstorm update and what to expect this weekend

It seemed almost certain that thunderstorms were going to roll into Leeds this weekend.

The Met Office had previously warned that the extreme weather was set to batter the whole of Yorkshire over the coming days.

But, although the warning remains for Sheffield, it has completely disappeared for Leeds.

Like much of Yorkshire, Leeds is set to enjoy a much clearer weekend after the Met Office removed its weather warning for the city.

However rain could still lash down on Sunday in what will be a miserable end to the weekend.

There is a chance of rain on Friday evening but Saturday is set to stay clear and sunny.

A yellow thunderstorm warning remains in place for the southeast of the UK and storms could move further north over the weekend.

Although the most extreme weather conditions are unlikely to reach Leeds, Sheffield could be hit by storms on Friday and Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Thunderstorms may once again develop across much of England and east Wales through Friday, lasting into Saturday."

Here is the updated weather forecast for Leeds this weekend:

  • Thursday - It will be cloudy across Leeds today with temperatures reaching around 18C before dropping to 14C this evening.
  • Friday - Rain could hit the city at around 7pm tomorrow and it is set to be extremely humid. Humidity will rise to 80 per cent by 7pm and the rain looks set to continue until at least 4am on Saturday.
  • Saturday - Temperatures will reach 18C on Satuday and there is currently no rain forecast for the city. Clouds will remain, although the sun could break through at around 1pm.
  • Sunday - Rain could fall throughout the day with the Met Office predicting downpours from 7am. There is an 80 per cent chance of rain between 1pm and 4pm.
