Met Office issues yellow weather warning with 'strong winds' of up to 70mph expected in Greater Manchester

Strong winds are predicted for Greater Manchester with forecasters warning of road and rail delays.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert forecasting strong winds across the entire region.

They have said to expect gusts of up to 70mph on higher ground on Tuesday.

The warning, which covers most of England, states that there could be some delays to road and rail travel - as well as delays at the airport.

Some bus services and train services may also be affected.

Delays are likely for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges and there may be some short term losses of power, according to the warning.

Wind is forecast across the entire region (M.E.N.)

The Met Office said: "Strong winds will develop on Tuesday which may bring some disruption.

"Southwesterly winds are expected to strengthen across much of England and Wales during Tuesday afternoon and evening.

"Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected quite widely inland, with exposed coasts and hills having gusts of around 60 mph, perhaps locally 70 mph.

"Heavy rain may be an additional hazard in places.

"Winds will ease from the west during Tuesday night."
