Met Office issues yellow weather warning with more than four inches of rain forecast for Wales

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Wales as more than four inches of rain are forecast to fall over the weekend.

The soaking rain is set to span Saturday with a weather warning coming into effect across the south of Wales at 6am and remaining in place until 11.59pm.

According to the Met Office wet and windy weather will develop on Friday night and will persist throughout Saturday.

"Rain will be heavy at times, especially Saturday morning. Rain may ease in some areas during the afternoon before becoming heavier and more persistent again during the evening," according to the warning.

The area covered by the warning spans the south of the country (Met Office)

Between 25 and 50mm of rain is expected to fall widely across the area, which includes Cardiff, Swansea, and Tenby.

Downpours will be heaviest over parts of the Brecon Beacons where as much as 75 to 125mm (up to 4.9in) of rain is possible.

The Met Office is warning of difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel during the downpours. Bus and train services are likely to be affected, with travel times taking longer, and spray and flooding is expected on roads.
