Liverpool weather set for thunderstorms as Met Office issues yellow weather warning

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning throughout today and into Saturday morning with thunderstorms expected across the country.

The organisation has issued the warning from midday Friday, June 26 until 9 am on Saturday.

This week has seen a heatwave across the country with temperatures on Merseyside reaching 28 degrees yesterday.

However, storms are expected to arrive sometime this evening or over night which could even see flooding in some areas along with lightning strikes.

The alert, which stretches from the Midlands up to Scotland, warns that the rain could lead to road closures where flooding or lightning strikes occur.

A separate Liverpool weather forecast from the Met Office predicts that the city will see the worst of the weather on Saturday, with thunder and lightning expected at around 11am.

The warning told people across England and Scotland: "Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible causing a danger to life. Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train or bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"Some communities might become cut off if roads flood.

"Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
