Met Office issues yellow weather warning for snow and ice covering most of UK

If you thought spring was just around the corner and temperatures would be rising, you may want to hold your horses.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow, just north of the Bristol area.

The weather warning comes into effect from 12am tomorrow (February 26) and will last until 12pm.

The warning covers much of the west country, the Midlands and east Anglia.

It stops just north of Bristol, with Dursley covered by the warning. The Met Office has said sleet and snow is expected to cause some travel disruption.

According to the Met Office: "Rain and hill snow will move eastwards late Wednesday evening and during the early hours of Thursday. Snow is expected over hills and mountains in Wales and also over the Cotswolds and Chilterns.

"In southern Wales 2-5 cm of snow is likely, mainly above 200 metres, whilst 1-3 cm snow is likely over the Cotswolds, Chilterns, and parts of the Midlands above 150 metres.

"Away from hills, rain may turn to sleet and snow for a time over parts of the Midlands, East Anglia and the northern Home Counties.

"Accumulations at these low-levels will be mostly small, especially on roads, but a centimetre or so is possible in one or two places. Rain, sleet and snow will quickly clear southeastwards by late morning and any snow at lower levels will soon thaw."

A second warning for snow and ice covers the Midlands, northern areas of the UK, Scotland and northern Ireland fro 10pm today (February 26) until 10am tomorrow.

To give a rough idea of accumulation levels, the Met Office is predicting heavy snow for Dursley at 9am tomorrow.

Light snow is then expected at 10am, with sleet showers affecting the area between 7am and 8am.
