Met Office issues yellow weather warning for rain and snow for the North East

If snow, storms, ice and a cold snap weren't enough - now the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain for a portion of the North East.

The warning covers multiples authorities starting at Holy Island in Northumberland and then down to Barnard Castle on the edge of County Durham.

The forecaster predicts that there will be persistent, possibly heavy rain with some snow on higher ground.

This Level 2 warning is in place from 6pm on Saturday until 5am on Sunday morning.

Travel disruption could be possible and flooding could also occur is some areas.

What to expect:

  • Spray and flooding on roads, and snow on higher level routes, probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
