Met Office issues yellow weather warning for ice in parts of Wales

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wintry showers and ice in parts of Wales.

The weather warning is set to come into place at 7pm tonight and will last until 10am Tuesday morning.

Monday could see the coldest night of the winter so far in the UK with some areas forecast to hit temperatures as low as -10C across the UK.

Temperatures in Wales could reach as low as -2C.

The forecaster warned that the weather conditions could lead to some travel disruption with untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths posing a risk.

The warning is in place for large parts of mid Wales, including parts of Powys, Wrexham and north Wales.

Large parts of Scotland, the north of England and Northern Ireland are also affected by the warning.

Those in the affected areas are being urged to take extra caution as slips and falls on icy surfaces are more likely.

Met Office forecaster Simon Patridge told WalesOnline on Sunday that temperatures across Wales will dip on Monday and Tuesday, with snow and sleet being on the cards for large swathes of Wales.

The week will get colder, with temperatures overnight on Tuesday possibly dropping to as low as -4C in south Wales.

Those dreading the wintry spell will welcome a change in the pattern towards the middle of the week when Tuesday into Wednesday will feature a much milder night across the board.

Conditions will be mostly dry, despite a touch of frost first thing on Wednesday morning.

The remainder of the week will see highs reaching into the double digits, with maximum temperatures climbing near 12C come Friday.
