Met Office issues yellow weather warning as Wales set for five days of rain

The Met Office has issued a two-day yellow weather warning for south Wales as the country braces for five days of downpours.

The first half of the weekend will bear the brunt of the bad weather as the warning comes into effect at noon on Friday and lasts through 6pm on Saturday. A widespread 20 to 30mm are forecast for south Wales, with up to 50mm possible in some locations, the Met Office said.

According to the forecast: "Showers on Friday morning will be replaced by more persistent rain during the afternoon and evening. The rain will be heavy at times, lasting through much of Friday night and Saturday morning before slowly dying out during Saturday afternoon."

Residents are being warned of the risk of flooding to homes and businesses. Power cuts and disruption to other services is also likely in the region. Motorists are should be alert for flooding and spray on roads throughout the weekend. Buses and train may also be affected by the downpours.

  • Bridgend
  • Caerphilly
  • Cardiff
  • Merthyr Tydfil
  • Neath Port Talbot
  • Newport
  • Rhondda Cynon Taf
  • Swansea
  • Torfaen
  • Vale of Glamorgan

Five days of rain to target Wales

After drenching downpours over the weekend in south Wales, wet weather will target much of the remainder of the country into next week.

Further spells of rain are forecast to spread from southwest to northeast into Wednesday as low pressure dominates.

This will result in milder air for many, but commuters and those heading outdoors will still want to pack a brolly and prepare to get wet.

The unsettled weather will calm by the end of the week, with temperatures hovering in the upper single digits.
