Met Office issues yellow warning for two days of heavy rain in Wales

The Met Office has issued a sudden yellow weather warning covering parts of south east Wales on Sunday and Monday.

The rain warning has been issued for Sunday lunchtime and runs until 7am on Monday morning.

The Met Office warning said: "Areas of persistent and sometimes heavy rain may lead to localised flooding and travel disruption."

Parts of Wales including Cardiff, the Valleys and as far west as Swansea, can expect persistent rain, heavy and possibly thundery at times, through Sunday afternoon, persisting into Monday morning.

While most areas should expect 20-40 mm of rain, a few places could see 60-80 mm over this period, including 15-25 mm within an hour. Such totals may cause travel disruption and some flooding.

The weather warning is in place for south east Wales (Met Office)

According to the Met Office, residents should be prepared for the following:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely.
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer.
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely.
